Died from lung cancer – was raised to life with new lungs!

We are in Nepal. A lady is taken to hospital with pain in her body. The doctor diagnoses her with lung cancer. Treatment commences, but the disease gets the upper hand. The lady gets steadily weaker, and after nearly two years, she has more or less withered away. The doctor informs the family that there’s nothing more he can do. She will die, soon.

This lady has seven children. When it is understood that she only has hours left to live, all her family members gather around her bed to say farewell. Around 11PM, the woman draws her last breath. Her extended family, all Hindus, instantly gather. They start preparing the cremation, as customs are in their culture. Among all the people assembling to show their last honor, there is also a small group of Christians. At a point of time during this night, one of those believers in Christ takes courage to ask some of the deceased’s closest relatives: “Will you allow that we pray to Jesus Christ for your mother?” Some of the Hindus were dismayed: “Pray for someone who is dead? What kind of contrivance is this?” However, some of the others said: “She’s dead, so what’s the matter? If they wish to pray, so why not?”

The green light for prayer in Jesus’ name is given. And the believers start praying. Not quietly, not discretely, not one short, single prayer in one corner of the room. No, they start calling out loudly the name of Jesus. The continue for half an hour, one hour, an hour and a half. Gahatraj, who told me this story when I sat together with him in his own house, is the son of the lady who died. He was there, he observed and heard everything. After about two hours of intense prayer, Gahatraj walked over to give her mother a last kiss on her forehead, as his last sign of love. As he bows down to kiss her, he sees sweat drops on her skin. He puts his cheek to her face and immediately feels that her body is warm. Shortly after, the lady opens her eyes.

Her cancer-worn body is, understandably, weak, but she’s alive. Hospital staffs come and supply her body with intravenous liquid. The very next day, the lade comes back to her own house. Gahatraj tells that he himself and the entire grand family, consisting of 63 Hindu people, immediately accept Jesus to be God after what they have seen.
Two weeks after this dramatic turn, the lady is taken back to hospital for a major check-up. X-rays are taken of her inner organs. When the doctor eventually returns with the pictures, he is almost mute. The x-ray photos show that her lungs are hundred percent good. “This is not possible for any doctor to do”, he states. “This is a miracle of Jesus!”

Gahatraj lets me know that he promised the Lord something that night when when he was about to say his final goodbye to his mother. As he was listening to the believers’ prayers, he said: “Jesus, if you do this miracle and give me my mom back, I promise to believe in you and work for you as long as I live.» Gahatraj has kept that promise. His mother was given eight more years with her family, before she finally went to be with her Lord. The whole family is faithful to Jesus. Gahatraj himself is working to help Christians in Nepal, as they face numerous challenges from the government. Many laws limit the minorities’ freedom of belief, which affect the Christians in particular. One clear reason to that, is the fact that Christianity has had an exceptional growth in Nepal over the past years, which the authorities as well as the Hindu organizations are well aware of.

Gahatraj knows all the members of the Government; he is a respected person also internationally, often being invited to conferences around the world when human rights issues are on the agenda. Gahatraj says that the politicians in Nepal are very welcoming and sweet when he speaks to them, they heartily agree that freedom and equality for all religions need to be, but when it comes to practical action, they do nothing. No walk, only talk. Much of this is related to the Hindu pressure coming from Nepal’s big neighbor in the south, India. As the chairman of «Federation of National Christian Nepal», Gahatraj is spearheading the work to support all Christians in his country. He is constantly keeping his promise he gave to Jesus when his mother miraculously regained her life
