Neema
Neema is 34 years old. He has a wife and four children, and his family are members of the teagarden-church in Pattibari. This church consists of 22 families, and has been growing slowly and steadily since it was planted ten years earlier. In Bengal the father’s decision counts for the whole family, and that is why they count their members in families instead of individuals. The village called Pattibari consists of about 300 households. Alcoholism is a huge problem in this area, and though a large part of the population considers themselves as Catholics, they have no concerns about alcohol.

That might not be the case for all the Catholic churches, but that’s how it is in Pattibari. Neema is more than willing to share his testimony. He comes from a Buddhistic family, and it is no small thing for a Buddhist to convert to another faith. He has nevertheless made the decision, and he tells us that he – two years ago – had a special experience. He was touched by the Lord and started to speak in foreign languages. At the same time, he felt the Lord told him to make a declaration that a mighty work for the Lord would start to grow in this area. “The Lord truly spoke to my heart, and told me to say this to the other people”. Neema says that this experience changed his prayer life as well. Now he can easily spend both two and three hours in prayer every day; It doesn’t feel hard at all!
One Sunday Neema and some other Christians had planned to visit a sister in the faith. He felt like seeking the Lord for this visit, and again the Lord spoke to him that they would experience great things in his village. They went to visit this sister, and while they were there, something happened. A boy, maybe around 7-8 years old came in. He was totally naked, and his body was full of wounds. Neema says that he was filled with an enormous compassion and love for this boy, and he just wanted to pray for him. He asked who he was, and at the same time the boy’s mother also came into the room – they lived in a village nearby. Neema asked the mom why she hadn’t taken the boy to the doctor. She answered that she had tried her best, but nothing worked. Neema said to her that if she would allow it, he would pray that the Lord heal the boy. She was very happy and accepted immediately, so they prayed for him.
The same night, while Neema was praying, he saw the boy in a vision. He could see how all the wounds disappeared and the sickness came out of his body. “When I saw that vision”, Neema said, “it instantly convinced me that the boy had really been healed”. The coming Sunday the mother of the boy came and gave testimony that her son had been completely healed. At the same time, she invited Neema to come and pray for another boy who also seemed to suffer from that same illness.
Because of what had happened, Neema was invited to many non-Christian families’ homes. For instance, they visited a Hindu family to pray for a girl that suffered from a strong fever. She had been ill for a week, and now it was critical. When Neema laid his hand on her to pray, he could feel that her body was hot. After he had prayed, he instantly felt that the body temperature was fine, and the fever were gone. “I told her parents that they had to come and feel the change themselves, and I was so excited about this miracle that I barely managed to control myself” says Neema with a big smile. The girl sat up in a chair, and Neema asked her what she wanted to eat. “Pickles” was the answer. “A little spicy” the girl added.
By this Neema also got a confirmation from the Lord that he wanted to do something extravagant in this place, and that he himself would be used to perform some of the miracles of the Lord. “Sadly, this family didn’t come to church though they saw a clear miracle. Maybe we haven’t done enough to follow them up” Neema concludes.
